James McCloy

Born in the UK and raised in WA, James fell into psychology and has been trying to get out ever since.

James has a background in Organisational and Counselling Psychology, has completed a Master's in Clinical Psychology and is now a PhD candidate. He has worked in providing trauma response services, general counselling, domestic violence prevention programs, perpetrator programs, forensic psychology and relationship skills for teens. James has worked for an Aboriginal Medical service in the Southwest as Clinical Psychologist in their Social and Emotional Wellbeing team where he learnt that Western models of treatment and engagement don't always work. This resulted in him developing his PhD topic - Towards a cross-cultural psychotherapeutic framework for Psychologists working with Western Australian Aboriginal people - to build on his experience with the AMS and explore ways of developing culturally appropriate psychological interventions. James currently works as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in a Department of Health Community Mental Health service, private practice and as a father to four girls.
